It's pretty much an online only game, known as an MMO. Very very sad as I wanted an individual only component. Since that won't happen, instead try playing one of the older Star wars games like Knights of the old republic 2 until you get a computer or to an area that can connect online.

With the release of the new SWTOR Patch, players finally got some important features that they expected to have from the start (beside the new content). Group finder, speeded up leveling (legacy perks), new armor kits and the most wanted ranked warzones system for PVP are some of the 'newest' features.
PVP seems now more attractive to SWTOR players and brings up the old problem of lag or high latency and a solution on how to fix SWTOR lag. For all those not knowing that lag or high latency is part of online gaming as the autumn is a part of the 4 seasons, here is some information on how to fix lag in SWTOR (reduce high latency).
First of all, YOUthe player need to find out what causes the lag in SWTOR! On one hand there is high latency caused by hardware and on the other hand high latency caused by the system and internet connection.
High latency caused by Hardware!
*There are still players out there that do not take a look at the system requirements of Star Wars The Old Republic before buying it!
The recommended System Requirements are:
- CPU: AMD Phenom 2 X4 Quad-core 2.5GHz or better / Intel Core 2Quad Processor 2.4GHz or better.
- OS: Windows 7 64bit SP1, with 4GB RAM or higher.
- 8x DVD-ROM or faster.
- VIDEO: ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4850 or better* / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 or better* / *512 minimum video RAM / *Shader 3.0 or better fully compatible graphics card.
The minimum System Requirements are:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better / Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0 GHz or better.
OS: Windows XP with 1.5GB RAM or higher / Windows Vista/7 with 2GB RAM or higher / PCs using built-in graphic chipsets, 2GB RAM is recommended.
8x DVD-ROM or faster.
VIDEO: ATI X1800 or better* / NVIDIA 7800 or better* / Intel 4100 or better* / *256MB minimum video RAM / Shadder 3.0 or better fully compatible graphics card
*It is important to know that minimum system requirements will allow you to play SWTOR but you will be far below the possible performance and lag is possible as well.
High latency in SWTOR caused by hardware malfunction
As most of the players are not computer hardware professionals, it will be hard to find malfunctioning hardware. Here are the most common and important parts you should take care of:
- RAM
In order to find out if your RAM sticks are corrupted you can test them with www.memtest86.com.
- Processor
If your CPU usage is high, one of the main hardware issues (there are tons of software issues) is dust on the CPU ventilator!
- Graphics Card
Troubleshoot graphics card issues are not that easy and can be very time intensive! The fastest way to troubleshoot a possible issue is to use the integrated graphics card test (included in most leading graphics card software packages) or to temporarily plug another graphics cards in the motherboard slot. Note that you should disable your onboard graphics card if you use a slot card.
- Audio Card
Issues with audio cards are in most of the cases not connected with sound issues. Well of course if you don't hear anything in the game it's obvious that your audio card has issues. But there are many situations where a malfunctioning audio card causes problems but you still hear the sound. The best way to troubleshoot this is to plug in another audio card for a test!
- Mouse
The well-known slow, stopping, lagging mouse cursor when you start a game or while playing is in most of cases not caused by your mouse. It's caused rather by your CPU or graphics card! Mouse incompatibility is in these times almost gone. And if your mouse doesn't work, just plug in new one.
- Router/Modem
As Star Wars The Old Republic is an online game, a malfunctioning router or modem will cause a big headache! Sometimes it's an improperly plugged in wire, not enough electricity, unstable electricity, wrong position of a wireless router and tons of other reasons. High latency caused by systems, software and internet connections!
As with every online game, high latency is mainly caused by the system, 3rd party software applications and/or the internet connection.
If your system performs slowly or 3rd party software applications use too much system memory or interfere with the internet connection, then its most likely that there will be high latency in SWTOR.
If you have a slow internet connection, unstable internet connection, corrupted or misconfigured internet connection settings, processes, registry settings and protocols, then high latency is as sure as sunshine after rain!

In order to reduce the causes of SWTOR lag as much as possible, some steps can be undertaken. But be aware that with lag caused from game servers or the game itself, there is nothing you can do on your end!
If the lag is caused by your ISP (do a speed test with Speedtest4free which you can download from our Website) the only chance you have is to collect as much proof as possible and confront your ISP with the problem!
As there is really a high percentage of SWTOR lag caused on the player's end, you can do the following to try to fix it:
