With today’s Pokemon Sun and Moon news comes the announcement of a major update for Pokemon Bank. For those not in the know, Pokemon Bank is a utility app Nintendo created for the 3DS that allows players to easily store and transfer Pokemon between generation six games. That functionality will extend into the seventh generation of Pokemon games, with Nintendo confirming today that Pokemon Sun and Moon will receive Bank support in January 2017.
- National Pokedex. The Pokedex was created by Professor Oak in the Kanto region. Each region has their own numerical list of the Pokemon that live nearby. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
- Half the fun of Pokemon games is transferring your previous gen Pokemon up to the current gen, and working on filling out your National Pokedex. Why was a National Pokedex not included in Sun/Moon? Or do you guys think we might get it closer to January when the PokeBank will work with Gen7?
Additionally, Pokemon Bank will be getting a new feature once compatibility for Sun and Moon is added in January. Now players will be able to use an in-app National Pokedex to keep track of the Pokemon they’ve caught, not just in Sun and Moon, but across X and Y and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as well. For folks trying to complete the Pokedex – a Herculean task now that we have so many different Pokemon – this feature is sure to come in handy.
Players will also be able to use the Poke Transporter – a tool that allows players to move their Pokemon from fifth-generation titles to the Pokemon Bank – with the Virtual Console releases of Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow. This means that players will be able to transfer their first-generation Pokemon into Pokemon Sun and Moon. How the Bank will handle Red, Blue, and Yellow‘s Special stat, which was dropped in favor of Special Attack and Special Defense in later generations, remains to be revealed.
It’s interesting that Nintendo has chosen to hold back Pokemon Bank support for Sun and Moon until January, two months after release – it seems that the company wants players to experience the game with the only the Pokemon available in Sun and Moon before they move their old monsters over. There will undoubtedly be more information as we close in on the November 18 launch of Sun and Moon, so stay tuned.

The upcoming games will feature Ultra Sun and Moon’s National Dex. This ran contrary to Pokemon Sun and Moon where Trainers only get to record Pokemon native to the islands of Alola.
This feature, which existed back in Pokemon X and Y versions, will include Pokemon across various regions. One evidence can be seen from a close up shot is taken from the Definitive Guide set to be released a few days after the game’s release on November 17. Given the knowledge of a National Dex, it expands the roster even further. The count will reach beyond the 400 More Pokemon Revealed mark. In terms of the game’s elements, this may provide new Dex entries courtesy of the travelling companion – the Rotomdex. This can be done once players have transported the species from previous versions to their game. At the moment however, it is uncertain whether TPCi will only limit the choices to the Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Pokedex or add more. In the VGC 2016 rules, players get to choose at least two of the restricted Legendary Pokemon to include in their team. Common teams ran the games’ mascots: Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, or Mega Rayquaza thanks to fantastic abilities and great synergy.
The arrival of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire shaped the way the Pokemon Video Game Championships played out.
While the 2018 Championships format is not clear-cut yet, it may hint at the possibility of regulations changes. With the introduction of the new rules, certain species with high Base Stat Total were eligible for the competition.
